Farewell Matt Blackmore

Matty Blackmore announced his retirement from baseball at the conclusion of Sandringham v Upwey game last Tuesday.
After a career that spanned over 30 years Matty’s goes out after returning to his original club Sandringham Royals some 3 years ago returning to where it all began as a 10yo at Tulip Street.
Along the way Matty has represented Victoria and Queensland (juniors)played at highest level nationally with the Aces,awarded Player of Finals series in Aces 2010 Aces Claxton Shield win and was also awarded Pitcher of the Year in same year.
Matty enjoyed success in Europe with highly rated Draci Brno with a 0.50 ERA…
He pitched at elite level in France for
Montpellier Barracuda’s and also hit .324 in 18 games.
Back in Australia Matty has coach juniors at DBA level,coached Cheltenham Baseball Club,played at Dingley Baseball Club and played for many years giving great service to Melbourne Baseball Club before returning to the Royals.

Royals coach Marshall Skinner applauded Matty’s career and his longevity in the game,and stated it was a privilege to have Matty on the team list for past seasons.
Pitching coach Tim Ballard reflected on Matt’s dominance “on the hill” at his peak and how much respect Matt has from all in the game….
Michael Herman remembered Matty being so dominant for the Aces and how professional his approach to the game is.
Matty bows out with many personal achievements and importantly for Matty many fond team success memories that typify the type of team player he was.
