Perhaps the most influential and loyal member of the Sandringham Royals Baseball Club, Barry Wonnacott has passed away peacefully (Tuesday)
How fortunate Sandringham Baseball Club was that Barry(the first Wonnacott to join)graced the club and commenced an association that would leave an indelible imprint with the involvement of his parents and siblings that has extended for many, many years.
A dedicated and formidable player,Barry served as President,Vice President and
Chairman of Juniors guiding a wealth of talent at junior levels and instilling the values of loyalty and hard work.
Sandringham Baseball Club honored Barry with Life Membership due to his wonderful contribution to the club.
No longer will our current players enjoy a chat with Bazz post game or he shouting the boys a beer…he loved joining in the post game reports on the field and adding a compliment whenever appropriate.
He loved watching the development of younger players, and had a keen eye for a good swing or a good arm.
No doubt the umpires of the Summer season will miss Barry’s unashamed parochialism and opinions from close proximity behind the Tulip Street net and the occasional inflammatory “chip” at an player not wearing a Sandringham uniform.
Barry Wonnacott’s contribution on and off the field of our club is unlikely to ever be matched….his legacy will remain along with the wonderful memories he provided as well as the wisdom he shared with many over a period of 65 years of dedication to the Sandringham Royals.
Time and Game Bazza
Rest In Peace
